About the Book
Hailey Hallam was only about a year old when she started to give her own "Hugs Through the Air." It all started one day, when her Mom, author Jennifer Hallam, wanted just one too many hugs. With her spirited nature, Hailey wasn't one to stop what she was doing to give out hugs. Being particularly busy at the moment Mom was asking for a hug, Hailey placed her little hands on her shoulders and squeezed.
"MMMMM," she said.
"Was that Mama's hug," her Mom asked.
"Uh huh," Hailey squealed.
"Are you giving Mama a hug through the air?"
"Uh huh," Hailey replied.
Then she grasped her shoulders and squeezed again, pointing through the air, saying, "Air." After that, Mama received a hug through the air daily. Then, other beloved family members, Dada, Nana, Pap Pap, Uncle Mike, Travis, Michael and Heidi all got hugs through the air. A Hug Through the Air was sent to Daddy while he worked, to Nana and Pap Pap when she called on the phone, and to anyone who wasn't present at the time. You see, to Hailey, everyone she loved was always connected. It just took "A Hug Through the Air."
Hailey and her Daddy, Troy Hallam, left us suddenly and tragically in a car accident on August 26, 2011. The family was traveling on Route 79N past Grove City, heading to Presque Isle in Erie for a weekend getaway. With her, she took a piece of our heart, but we find comfort to go on by learning from her - simply by knowing we will always be connected.
When that tug in our hearts becomes too much to bear, we always send up"A Hug Through the Air."
